The word YOGA derives from the Sanskrit word ‘yuj’ which means to unite or integrate. Yoga is about harmonizing body and mind through breathing, yoga poses (asanas) and meditation. It has been practiced in India since ancient times but has spread across the world for the exact same benefits. As it happens with every philosophy or idea when it spreads, it starts assimilating new ideas and culture and transforms into something new.
Vinyasa Yoga is a modern approach to Yoga but has also retained the classical aspects. In this style, emphasis is on both breathing (classical element) and the flow (modern twist) of the asana or posture. Derived from hatha yoga, Vinyasa yoga differs in some important ways from its predecessor. Vinyassa yoga is often faster, and the postures are linked together in a series of movements that are synchronized with the breath. The pace can vary and there is no one particular sequence that has to be followed. In fact, the name Vinyasa is a Sanskrit word that translates as "variations within parameters." This flexibility allows the teacher, me, to tailor the sequences to my students' individual level.
As an experienced and enthusiastic Vinyasa Yoga teacher I strive to make your Yoga class a fun ride with massive health benefits. Come and experience it for yourself.
